These are useful for more advanced design tasks but even if you are using GIMP only occasionally for simple stuff, you might be interested in them. If you are curious to see what can be done with all these goodies, here is a gallery of artwork by Ramon Miranda. Save for Web is easy to use. Just install it, choose it from the File menu and select the settings you want.
The key to using this plugin is to find the ideal balance between image quality and small size. It does a similar job to stand-alone image compression tools , with the obvious advantage of not needing to leave GIMP in order to compress an image or two. It contains all of the plugins above plus tons of other plugins in addition to them. In GIMP you specify the delay as a layer comment. You can even drag the preview around your desktop.
Before we can apply this effect, we need to create a new image out of the third frame. This is as simple as dragging the layer preview from the layers window to the toolbar.
Now duplicate the image four times. With a rectangular select tool, draw a selction around the text. The blur dialog pops up. Now we need to specify parameters for the lowest layer in the stack, ie. After you click OK another dialog shows up. Here, choose continue and specify parameters for the last frame. You can backup the progress, but for now we will make the filter apply on all layers inbetween by clicking on continue in the next dialog. All we need to do now is to drag the layers back to the original image.
Now we only need to save our animation as GIF. The animstack tools in GIMP are also very useful for putting together animations, depending on what you want to do, while if you are after something in particular there are experts and scripters around here who could probably help. The "updated" 2. Click on the add a new folder icon 2.
Click on the Open a file selector Ok that which should get you A new entry in the paths list 6. Some time you will have to OK that either now or after adding the scripts path. For the scripts: Select the Scripts entry Exactly the same procedure as the plugins. OK that, restart Gimp for the extra paths to take effect. That gives a new menu entry Video. How much of GAP now works is debatable. Expect some functions not to work. Actually, I'm an idiot and didnt listen to Zorba. Let me get an older version of GImp and give this a try.
Thank you all for your patience and help. Good to hear. PointyHairedBoss Junior Gimper. Thanks for the very detailed instructions.
I never would have figured that out on my own. However now I have a problem: on startup I get a "No Disk" error message. I can close the dialog box but it instantly reappears. After I close the box exactly 72 times Gimp will start.
